Happy Birthday to the best wife (and mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, therapist.....) anyone could ask for. I am sad that we are apart today. Please give me a raincheck for a special birthday dinner.

Goodbye New York - Hello Iowa/Japan
This is Pat. I am on the plane somewhere over I think Alaska right now. Today marks the start of our month apart before Sean and Tracy join me in Japan.
Last week was quite exciting. The movers took three full days to get all of our stuff packed up and out of the house. They were done by the end of the day on Wednesday. We spent most of the week in a hotel since our bed was in a box somewhere. Wednesday afternoon Gaye took one of our cars and headed back to Iowa. We spent Thursday cleaning the house up and getting it ready for the renters. By the end of the day on Thursday things were in pretty good shape. We have some other people coming in this week (painters, cleaners, …) to put the finishing touches on the place before the tenants move in on Friday August 1st.
Last Friday we said our official goodbyes to New York. Riley and I loaded up the remaining car and left for Iowa early in the morning. Tracy and Sean grabbed a flight home. We decided that a cross country trip with a baby and a dog was maybe not a good idea. Can you say three day road trip? Tracy and Sean got home Friday afternoon and I rolled into town around 10:30 that evening. All in all it was smooth traveling.
We had a good weekend in Iowa. I got to see some family and friends before heading over to Japan. I am glad that we decided to go there before moving. Tracy and Sean will stay at her Mom’s until the beginning of September when I will return to pick them up.
Sean continues to make progress. He recently started sitting up and is getting pretty good at it. Occasionally he loses balance and bonks his head but that doesn’t stop him from trying again. He is also starting to crawl – it actually more of a scoot for now, but damn close. In the last week he is also attempting so stand. At my Grandmothers on Friday he used me as support and hoisted himself up with a big smile. His sleeping is improving but still has a long ways to go.
